I'll admit that I sorta soured on Elliott when he left Yates in the middle of the season, especially after I read that he did almost the same thing to the Wood Brothers. Maybe it's my resolution this year to be nice before nasty, but I do feel badly for Elliott right now. You reap what you sow, but he is about to get married. How happy can that be for him right now? His mother has had and is fighting cancer and his father had a health scare recently. His family...

Requesting out of a contract does not seem to be unique to Elliott. Isn't that what silly season is? The shifting of drivers, crews, sponsors, etc? There's something in the NASCAR dyanamic that seems to allow drivers to change teams regardless of contractural agreements. It's happened so many times. Maybe you guys know... did Ryan Newman's contract with Penske expire so Ryan could go drive for Tony or did Ryan somehow get out of his agreement?

But can teams fire...

AJ was never slated to replace Labonte in the 43, other than when it came into the picture as a merger possibility with GEM. And even then, the rumor was always that Reed would be in the 43 and AJ would be in the 10.

Since even before the end of the season, GEM has been trying to move heaven and earth to land AJ in a ride. Word has it that Kasey personally put the bug in their ear that they had made a mistake in getting Reed and should have gotten AJ instead. And this was before AJ...

This is just all to much. If AJ was to replace Bobby and that didn't happen well they should tell him "sorry we don't have4 a spot for you after all" and leave things alone! And I thought I was the onlly one in my family that wasn't going to have to buy new stuff (shirts, stickers...) next year. Maybe things will work out and Elliott can stay in the 19. But if I wewre him, they couldn't pay me enough to stay after trying to screw me over.

Wow- see what happens when I don't check in?? I agree with you Kim, Elliott hasn't run well for what ever reason for a long time. I thought it was a team issue, and then I thought he was distracted, but now he has some decisions to make about his racing future- that is if he wants one. We can't figure out where Bobby lands in all of this merger talk. However, if you've been close to a computer in the past few hours you've seen the reports that the Petty/GEM merger is a done deal. Reed Sorenson will be driving the 43 (Air Force is sponsor) and not the 10. So we can't figure out if they will only field 3 cars instead of 4 or what.

There is speculation that the team will change names, most likely to have Richard Petty's name in there...

I had not been to NASCAR.com or jayski.com, or here, for awhile so I didn't know about Elliott being screwed, ah, released from GErM until a little birdie sent me an email about it. Speaking of NasKARMA, seems there is plenty of bad to go around! George Gillette ain't doin' so well either:
